The Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana (YPII), a signature program of the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance, is pleased to provide the following resource: Youth As Philanthropists. We gratefully acknowledge Community Partnerships with Youth, Inc. and its founders – Ann Hoover and Janet Wakefield, for their development of the material.
Youth as Philanthropists >>

Background: This resource came about as part of the Habits of the Heart: Strengthening the Traditions of Giving and Serving among Youth project. Partners that were involved in the innovative project represented various constituencies: Indiana Humanities Council, Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, Council of Michigan Foundations, and Community Partnerships with Youth (CPY). CPY also invited seven youth-serving organizations to assist them in the development of the resource materials: Center for Youth As Resources, Indiana and National FFA Associations, Girls Incorporated, Indiana Youth Services Association, Kiwanis International/Key Club International, National Association for Community Leadership and Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service/4-H. Contributing writers of the resource were: Darren Bickel, Jerry Finn, Angela Lupton, Linda Martin, Kathleen Randolph, John Steinbach, Lisa Willis, and David Yates.

In a joint effort and collaborative spirit to further expand the usage of this resource to a greater audience, CPY has given permission to YPII to provide this philanthropic training information on our website. YPII has updated, condensed and digitized the material to make it as “user friendly” as possible for youth workers, teachers and facilitators. We encourage you to use the lesson plans in sequential order as they will be building blocks for philanthropic knowledge and experiential learning.

We hope this resource will be a very helpful educational tool for your organization to teach young people the value they can bring to their communities as philanthropists in giving their time, talent and treasure.
