Mrs. Cara Lott’s Story
Mrs. Cara Lott is a teacher at the elementary school. She enjoys teaching her students about reading, writing, math, and history, but she knows there are other important skills her students need to learn. For instance, she would like them to know about serving their community, being a leader, and engaging their fellow students.
Mrs. Cara Lott uses her teaching abilities to incorporate service into the classroom. For example, Mrs. Cara Lott’s class is studying science and is working with the local parks department to create a butterfly garden. The students have become very involved with the butterfly garden and the community is enjoying the beautiful results of this project.
Ask your teacher if you can do a classroom community project that connects with something you’re already learning at school.
When working on a class project, think about how you could connect it with a community need and local nonprofit organization.
If you are part of a club, create a service component to make a difference in your community.
